If you, like many of us, are dealing with breakouts due to face masks and all the anxieties of these uncertain times, no worries! Just like your mask, The Things We Do has you covered.
First of all, what is Mask-ne? “Mask-ne” is any breakout that we get from wearing our masks. You’ll notice these breakouts mostly along the jawline and nose area, right where our masks sit the most snug on our faces. According to Founder and Cosmetic Nurse Vanessa Lee, these breakouts can pop up as a result of debris from dirt particles in the air, makeup, and dead skin. Debris and oil builds up in the skin without any oxygen exposure, causing mask-ne. Here are some of her amazing beauty tips on how we can prevent and combat these stubborn breakouts:
Vanessa recommends avoiding moisturizer and makeup underneath your mask. Moisturizer is a humectant barrier, and there is enough moisture under your mask. Makeup and any extra products add to the extra moisture and debris that is already present, triggering unwanted breakouts.
What can we do to help it? Double cleanse, double cleanse, double cleanse! This is one of the most effective ways to combat stubborn Mask-ne. The first cleanse is meant to break down and remove your sunscreen, makeup, and any debris. The second cleanse is what really cleans out the pores and penetrates deeper into the skin. We love using the Glyglow cleanser 3-4 times a week to help keep these stubborn blemishes at bay. It is formulated with glycolic and salicylic acid along with jojoba beads to tackle and gently exfoliate the breakouts, while seaweed extract, lavender, and calendula work to soothe and heal the skin. With this irresistible concoction, your skin will be singing to the skies!
If you’re dealing with Mask-ne, another tip Vanessa loves and recommends is masking your Mask-ne! After a long day of mask-wearing, switch out your face mask for a hydrating infusion mask from The Things We Do. The Liquid Lift Sleeping Mask is the perfect way to calm your skin. Organic Oats, Vitamin B5, and Hyaluronic Acid are married into a luxurious lightweight gel to plump, tighten, and nourish your skin. You’ll wake up with a fresh face that’ll have you saying, “mask-ne who?"
